How we build ParentMind's guidance

Plain language about where guidance comes from, how confident we are in it, and what we deliberately don't do.

Written from research, not made up

Every piece of guidance starts from published research and well-established parenting resources, then is rewritten in our own words for a busy parent. We don't send you off to read a study or a book — we do that work so you don't have to.

We don't name the sources we draw on inside the app. That keeps the guidance focused on your child instead of a bibliography — see below for how we still keep it honest.

How guidance is reviewed and graded

In our review process, guidance counts as reviewed only once a clinical reviewer has signed it off. During early access, some guidance — safety wording included — appears in the app before that review is finished, and it’s always clearly labelled as a preview or draft. Helplines are the exception: we show one only after we’ve verified its number. Everything is also graded by how strong the evidence behind it is, using the confidence labels below.

What the confidence label means

Look for a plain confidence word inside "Why" on any card. It tells you how solid the evidence is — nothing more, nothing less.

Strong
Backed by many well-designed studies that point the same way.
Good
Backed by solid evidence, though less extensive than "strong".
Emerging
Early, promising evidence that's still developing.
Mixed
Experts and studies don't fully agree yet, so we explain the different views instead of picking one.

What we never do

  • Give you a medical or mental-health verdict about your child. We're not a medical or mental-health provider, and nothing here replaces one.
  • Show you sources, authors, book titles or program names. We check the research on our side, so it never becomes a reading list for you.
  • Sell your family's data to advertisers, or share it beyond the service providers who help us run ParentMind (for example hosting, email and voice processing) — who may use it only to provide that service.
  • Claim a guaranteed outcome. We tell you what the evidence supports, in plain confidence terms — never a promise about your child.
